Daejeon: Lee Dong-gook scored his second brace within four days as he helped AFC Champions League quarter-finalists Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors down Daejeon Citizen 4-3 at the Daejeon World Cup Stadium on Sunday.
The veteran Jeonbuk striker, who had scored the goals in his side's 2-1 defeat of Busan I’Park on Wednesday, helped the 2006 AFC Champions League winners stay on top of the K League Classic table with 43 points, a healthy seven-point lead over second-placed Suwon Samsung FC.
Brazilian forward and league top scorer Edu also scored a double (8’, 61’) in Jeonbuk’s latest domestic encounter, while Lee netted his own thanks to goals in the 34th and 95th minutes.
Hwang In-beom (27’), Hyuk Ko-min (55’) and Han Eui-gwon (81’) replied for Daejeon, who are currently bottom in the standings.
Jeonbuk qualified for the AFC Champions League quarter-finals after drawing 1-1 with Chinese side Beijing Guoan in the first leg of their Round of 16 clash (pictured) before beating them 1-0 in the return fixture.
Choi Kang-hee-led Jeonbuk will return to the AFC Champions League by taking on Japan’s Gamba Osaka at the Jeonju World Cup Stadium in the first leg of their last eight tie on August 26.
They will travel to Osaka for the second leg at the Expo ’70 Stadium on September 16.
