Doha: Lekhwiya have unveiled new signee Mohammed Muntari ahead of their AFC Champions League quarter-final campaign which kicks off in August.
Muntari, a naturalised Qatari of Ghanaian descent, joined the Qatari champions on a five-year contract from local rivals El Jaish.
Following his naturalisation, the 21-year-old received a call-up to represent Qatar in the AFC Asian Cup Australia 2015 and scored his first international goal in a friendly against Estonia in December 2014.
“I have huge aspirations for titles with Lekhwiya and that’s why I chose this side, I hope to contribute to this prestigious team,” said Muntari.
“I will do my best in the matches to be an influential element in the team.”
Lekhwiya coach Djamel Belmadi praised his new signing as a good addition to the team as well as a proven player in the Qatar Stars League and spelt out his aspirations to win the most championships.
“He is a good scorer who has good technical and physical possibilities, and I am sure he will provide the required addition to the team.
“My goal with the team is to achieve the biggest number of championships in the next period, whether in the Asian or local championships.”
Lekhwiya will commence their AFC Champions League quarter-final campaign away by taking on 2014 runners-up Al Hilal of Saudi Arabia on August 25 before hosting the return fixture on September 15.
