Campbelltown: Former AFC Champions League winners Urawa Red Diamonds got their 2017 campaign off to winning ways after an emphatic 4-0 win over 2014 champions Western Sydney Wanderers in the Group F opener at Campbelltown Sports Stadium on Tuesday.

The J.League side, AFC Champions League winners in 2007, dominated for long spells but did not break the deadlock until the 56th minute when Shinzoh Koroki fired home after Tadanari Lee’s assist. Koroki then returned the favour a little over two minutes later as Lee volleyed the visitors two goals ahead.

Defender Tomoaki Makino stabbed home a third on 68 minutes before substitute Rafael da Silva completed a fine start for Urawa, and a dismal one for hosts Western Sydney, when he netted with four minutes remaining to make it 4-0 on the night as Mihailo Petrovic’s side laid down an early marker to the rest of the East.
