Brisbane: Goals from Jamie Maclaren and Brett Holman saw Brisbane Roar secure their first win of the 2017 AFC Champions League as they beat Kashima Antlers 2-1 in Group E on Wednesday to keep their Round of 16 hopes alive.

Maclaren netted his and Brisbane’s first goal of the continental campaign after 18 minutes with a viciously struck left-footed effort to delight the crowd at Brisbane Stadium. Always threatening, he enjoyed further opportunities to extend the lead with further first-half efforts.

However, it was Brett Holman who eventually added his side’s second shortly after half-time when a free-kick effort rebounded in his direction.

Ryota Nagaki pulled a goal back for Antlers with 12 minutes remaining, but it was too little too late for the Japanese side as the A-League side held on to pick up their long-awaited victory.
