Hong Kong: Eastern SC gained their first ever AFC Champions League point after playing out an entertaining 1-1 draw with Kawasaki Frontale in Group G at Mongkok Stadium on Wednesday.

After suffering a 7-0 reversal to Guangzhou Evergrande on Matchday One, the Hong Kong side got off to the perfect start when Manuel Bleda was upended in the box by Tatsuki Nara on 13 minutes and, after the defender was shown a straight red, the Spanish forward dispatched the ensuing penalty.

But Kawasaki levelled through Ko Itakura seven minutes after the restart, before Eastern’s Roberto headed onto the bar as the hour approached and Josh Mitchell saw his effort cleared off the line soon after as the hosts responded well.

Eastern goalkeeper Yapp Hung-fai got down low to deny Brazilian Rhayner with ten minutes remaining before the South American was then sent off for a second yellow card in added time. But Kawasaki held out to remain two points behind table-toppers Guangzhou after the Chinese Super League side drew 2-2 with Suwon Samsung Bluewing’s in Wednesday’s other Group G encounter.
