Kawasaki: Kawasaki Frontale cruised into the 2017 AFC Champions League quarter-finals on Tuesday after beating Muangthong United 4-1 in the second leg of the last 16 at Kawasaki Todoroki Stadium to progress 7-2 on aggregate.

The hosts came into the game with a commanding 3-1 lead from the first leg and started assuredly as a result, keeping possession well before Yu Kobayashi snuck an effort under Muangthong goalkeeper Kawin Thamsatchanan from the edge of the area to open the scoring in the 31st minute.

Just a minute later Kobayashi turned provider as he crossed to the back post for Tatsuya Hasegawa to tap home, and Eduardo Neto headed a third five minutes before half time.

Rhayner scored Kawasaki’s fourth goal in the 79th minute, converting after another Kobayashi assist, this time with a cute back-heel, before Teerasil Dangda headed home a late consolation for Muangthong with a minute remaining.

Kawasaki will now take part in the AFC Champions League quarter-finals for the third time, and first since 2009 when they were eliminated at the hands of fellow Japanese side Nagoya Grampus.
