New Delhi: AFC Cup quarter-finalists Bengaluru FC have appointed Albert Roca as their new head coach, it has been announced.
The 53-year-old Spaniard joins the I-League side on a two-year deal following the recent departure of Ashley Westwood.
Roca, who assisted Frank Rijkaard during the Dutchman’s stints as head coach of both Barcelona and Saudi Arabia, has also plied his trade in Turkey with Galatasaray. He was most recently in charge of the El Salvador national team.
“I’m very satisfied to have signed with Bengaluru FC,” Roca told the club’s official website.
“They are the champions of India, have fantastic supporters and most importantly, have a great support system and a management that is always hands on and wants to stay at the top. I want to assure our supporters that we will always give it our best. I want the supporters to be happy about the way we play.”
Roca’s first game in charge will be the AFC Cup quarter-final against Singapore’s Tampines Rovers on September 14.
