Amman: Al Wahda of Syria booked their place in the West Asian Zonal Final of the 2017 AFC Cup on Tuesday despite losing 1-0 to Jordan’s Al Wehdat in the second leg of their semi-final meeting at a packed out King Abdallah International Stadium.

Abdallah Deeb scored the only goal of the game in the seventh minute and it was not enough to stop Adnan Hamed’s side going down to a 4-2 aggregate defeat that means the Syrians will meet defending champions Air Force Club of Iraq in September's Zonal Final.

Having lost by a significant margin in the first leg in Beirut, Al Wehdat needed to make a fast start to have any realistic chance of pulling themselves back into the tie and, in the seventh minute, the home side claimed the goal they were looking for when Deeb controlled Omar Azmi’s cross from the right on the edge of the six-yard box before rolling it past Taha Mosa.

The goal gave the Jordanians the encouragement to push forward but, despite the home side’s dominance, the Al Wahda defence held firm to ensure Hossan Al Sayed’s side advanced to the next round of the competition.
