Since its low key beginnings in 1994, the AFC Annual Awards Ceremony has come a long way and is now Asian football’s biggest and most highly anticipated annual event to recognise and honour the best talent and achievements on the continent.
The Annual Awards night brings together Asian fans, players and officials on a glittering platform to proudly showcase Asian champions for their contribution to the game.
These bright stars of Asia have rapidly gained popularity and fame and are now having a great impact in foreign leagues. Similarly, Asia continues to welcome stars from all parts of the world who contribute to making football in our region so exciting and progressive.
This most prestigious night in the Asian football calendar culminates in the AFC Player of the Year Award. The trophy was designed to showcase an open-aired globe centre-piece, symbolising the spirit of the AFC and the world’s passion for football. The glittering open skeleton frame is a representation of the earth, and the focal point of the trophy is its ‘golden sculpture’ ensconced within. This dynamic golden form is the figure of the ‘modern player’ which has become a world famous icon within football circles.
