Kuala Lumpur: Asian Football Confederation (AFC) President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa has congratulated India, Oman and Palestine for confirming their spots in the AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019.

“I would like to offer my congratulations to India, Oman and Palestine for their remarkable displays and consistency throughout the campaign.

“I am confident that qualification for AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019 - the crowning jewel of the AFC’s competitions - will serve as an inspiration to the passionate fans and players in the respective Member Associations who also deserve praise for their commendable efforts.

“The expansion of the AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019, from 16 to 24 teams will engage more fans than ever before and serve as a catalyst to achieve our ambitions under the banner of One Asia, One Goal. I wish all teams competing for the remaining places the very best of luck,” said Shaikh Salman.

In Group A, India were guaranteed qualification after maintaining their perfect record with a 4-1 victory over Macau in Bangalore on Wednesday. 

Over in Group D, wins for Palestine and Oman on Tuesday ensured their safe passage into the Finals. Palestine secured a second consecutive appearance in Asia’s most prestigious tournament after beating Bhutan 10-0 at the Dura Stadium in Hebron.

Meanwhile, Pim Verbeek’s men posted a 3-1 away win over the Maldives to seal their fourth appearance in the group stage of the AFC Asian Cup, having also qualified two years ago in Australia.

The three teams will now join hosts the UAE as well as Australia, China P.R, Japan, Korea Republic, Islamic Republic of Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Qatar, Thailand and Uzbekistan, who all booked their berths last year.
