Phnom Penh: The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) President, Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa, today praised the new leadership of the Football Federation of Cambodia (FFC) for stabilising the organisation and promised the AFC's commitment in growing football in the country.
Meeting General Sao Sokha, the FFC President, in the Cambodian capital, Shaikh Salman said that he was delighted to be back in the country and added that the new leadership gave FFC an opportunity to develop football in the coming years.
Both Presidents re-affirmed their total commitment to tackle the evils of match-fixing and Gen Sao Sokha added: "We are taking match-fixing very seriously in Cambodia and promise we will spare no efforts in fighting this menace. We need the AFC’s help to fight this cancer - this disease."
Shaikh Salman stressed the AFC's zero-tolerance to match fixing and promised the FFC every assistance possible and added: "We have to work hard to preserve the integrity of football. There should be no place for dishonesty in football."
The AFC President also thanked the FFC for their support for unity in Asian football which has allowed the AFC to embark on new initiatives with great commitment and confidence. He said: "Under the banner of One Asia, One Goal we have seen Asian football make enormous strides and gain the admiration of Confederations around the world. We appreciate your support."
The FFC President announced the launch of football schools in the country's 25 provinces which will further encourage development. Gen Sao Sokha added: "We want to use football as a power for good and an education tool for our youth. Football can be a real force for social development in our country."
