Beirut: Lebanon maintained an unbeaten record in Group B with a 5-0 win over DPR Korea on Tuesday to edge closer to qualification for the 2019 AFC Asian Cup.

Hilal Al Helwe and Hassan Maatouk scored in the first half at Sports City Stadium for Lebanon.

And with Samir Ayass, Ali Hamam and Rabih Ataya increasing the lead in the second half, Lebanon consolidated their position at the top of the table with a five-point lead over Hong Kong with two games remaining.

Al Helwe opened the scoring after 21 minutes after intercepting Kim Chol-bom’s attempted backpass before rounding goalkeeper Ri Myung-guk.

And the home side added a second four minutes later as Maatouk found the net after Al Helwe’s attempted backheel from Ali Hamam’s pass was initially blocked.

The score remained the same until the start of the second half when Lebanon added a third as Maatouk’s shot from Ayass’ pass was blocked only to bounce into the net off the fortunate midfielder.

Hamam added Lebanon’s fourth with 11 minutes remaining with a powerful shot after the DPR Korea defence had only partially cleared Ataya’s cross.

DPR Korea’s disappointing day continued as Kim was sent off two minutes later after picking up a second yellow card before Ataya sealed the win in the first minute of stoppage time with a strike from just inside the penalty area.
