Seoul: Korea Republic's upcoming friendly matches against Costa Rica and Chile will take place in Goyang and Busan respectively.

The Korea Football Association (KFA) said the men's national football team will take on Costa Rica at Goyang Stadium in Goyang, north of Seoul, on September 7 and play Chile in Busan, 450 kilometres southeast of the capital, on September 11.

The friendlies will be Korea Republic's first two matches after the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia, where they suffered a group stage exit but scored a fantastic 2-0 win over 2014 champions Germany.

The friendlies are part of Korea Republic's preparations for the AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019, where the East Asians are in Group C with China PR, Kyrgyz Republic and the Philippines.

Korea Republic are looking to play the September friendlies under a new coach, with KFA currently shortlisting candidates.

Shin Tae-yong (pictured above), who coached Korea Republic at the FIFA World Cup, is listed as one of the candidates. Shin's contract with the KFA expired last month.

Costa Rica are ranked 23rd in the latest FIFA World Rankings, 34 spots higher than Korea Republic.

They also competed at the 2018 FIFA World Cup but failed to reach the Round of 16 from Group E. Costa Rica lost 1-0 to Serbia and 2-0 to Brazil before getting a 2-2 draw with Switzerland.

World No 9 Chile won the 2016 Copa America and were runners-up at the 2017 Confederations Cup, but they failed to qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
