Round of 16 holds no fear for Jordan, says Abdel Rahman
Abu Dhabi: Midfielder Baha' Abdel Rahman has declared that Jordan’s AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019 Round of 16 opponents will hold no fear for his side – whoever it may be.
Already assured of qualification, Jordan drew 0-0 with Palestine on Tuesday to finish top of Group B with a highly creditable seven points from their three games.
With Jordan now scheduled to meet the third-placed team from either Group A, C or D in Dubai on Sunday, Abdel Rahman is adamant that the 2004 and 2011 quarter-finalists are more than ready for the next round of the competition.

“We tried to get a maximum nine points from the group stage, but we couldn’t. We are, though, grateful we got a point from the game against Palestine and that we have qualified as group leaders,” explained the 32-year-old Al Faisaly star.
“This is the fourth AFC Asian Cup for Jordan and we have managed to advance and keep a clean sheet in all three of our group stage games.
“The Jordanian team doesn’t fear any other team. We are a humble side and we respect any team that we play. We will strive to do our best in the next round.”
Jordan’s cause has undoubtedly been helped by the excellent backing they have received from their passionate fans – a fact not lost on Abdel Rahman as he prepares for the knockout phase.
“We would like to thank the Jordanian fans who have supported us here in the United Arab Emirates,” he said.
“They kept cheering for us until the very last minute of the game [against Palestine], and they were great. I really hope they keep supporting us in the upcoming stages.”
