Al Ghassani credits Bento for UAE masterclass against Yemen

Al Khobar: Yahya Al Ghassani believes head coach Paulo Bento’s due diligence worked in the United Arab Emirates’ favour as they claimed a 3-0 victory against Yemen in Group H of the Preliminary Joint Qualification - Round 2 for the FIFA World Cup 2026 and AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027™ on Tuesday.

A fourth straight win sealed their progress into the third round of the FIFA World Cup qualifiers and booked their ticket to the AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027™.

Group H: Bahrain 3-0 Nepal

Riffa: Bahrain took a huge step towards advancing to the third round of the FIFA World Cup 2025 qualifiers and the AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027™ Finals after defeating Nepal 3-0 at the Bahrain National Stadium on Tuesday.

The results took Bahrain to nine points in Group H, three adrift of United Arab Emirates but, crucially, six ahead of Yemen with two matchdays remaining.

Riffa: A composed Bahrain proved too strong for Nepal, winning 5-0 in Group H of the Preliminary Joint Qualification – Round 2 for the FIFA World Cup 2026 and AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027™ at the Bahrain National Stadium on Thursday.

Goals from Mahdi Al Humaidan (2nd), Sayed Baqer (9th), Ali Madan (45+4), Ibrahim Al Khatal (87th) and a conversion from the spot from Ismaeel Abdullatif Hassan (90+6) settled the issue for Bahrain. 

The victory took Bahrain to six points from three matches, while Nepal remain without a point with the two sides to meet again on Tuesday.

Muscat: Oman's Al Nahda beat Bahrain's Al Riffa 3-1 after extra-time on Monday to wrap up a 4-2 aggregate victory in the AFC Cup™ 2023/24 West Zonal Semi-final at the Sultan Qaboos Sport Complex.

They will face either Iraq's Al Kahrabaa Club or Al Ahed FC of Lebanon in the two-leg West Zonal final in April.

Pizzi steps down as Bahrain head coach

Manama: Bahrain Football Association announced on Thursday the termination of the contract of head coach Juan Antonio Pizzi by mutual agreement.

Spaniard Pizzi took over the role vacated by Helio Sousa after the end of his contract in July 2023 and was in charge of Bahrain at the recent AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023™.
