Shenzhen: Sven-Goran Eriksson has been dismissed as Shenzhen FC head coach.
Currently in the second tier of Chinese football, the Swedish coach, who began his role in December, was charged with taking the Shenzhen-based club to the nation’s top tier division, the Chinese Super League, but endured a poor start to season recording only five wins in 13 games. Shenzhen are currently seven points behind leaders Dalian Yifan.
Eriksson was hired by Shenzhen following his success with Shanghai SIPG.
Eriksson’s two-year stint with Shanghai SIPG saw them finish as runners-up in the 2015 Chinese Super League, and make a first AFC Champions League appearance in 2016 where they lost to eventual champions Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors in the quarter-finals.
Former Shenzhen coach Wang Baoshan will return to replace the one-time England coach for the remainder of the season.
