Kuala Lumpur: The fourth meeting of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Coach Education Panel concluded in Kuala Lumpur on Monday following further discussions on the advancement of coaching education in Asia.
The panel - which was formed to establish a comprehensive coaching education strategy for the continent - set the context by examining the AFC Coach Education Pathway aimed at creating a systematic development of coaches and trainers at all levels in Asia.
The AFC Coaching Convention, one of the main topics discussed, was approved by the panel and will be set for further implementation. In essence, the Convention is an endorsement tool which provides regulations and guidelines as the minimum standards in coach education to protect and develop the game, coaches and players. It serves as an agreement between the AFC and its Member Associations (MAs) on the coach education rules and methods. The Coach Education Panel will lead, monitor, evaluate and support the MAs in this endeavour.
The prescribed tasks, processes and desired outcomes required to build core coaching competencies were revised following the panel’s additional inputs from the previous meetings.
Some of the competencies discussed previously include analysing professional matches, coaching professional games, training professional players/teams, teaching professional-level football, team and players.
The implementation of the Convention will take place once the final approval is given by both the AFC Technical Committee and AFC Executive Committee.
