Paju: Participants of the AFC Coach Asia programme have started their third module which is currently ongoing at the Korea Football Association’s National Football Centre in Paju.
Twenty-six members of Batch 2014, the pioneer batch of the coach development programme which prepares participants for the AFC Professional Coaching Diploma, are taking part in the module course which started on November 17.
Korea FA Vice-President Yu Dae Woo and Technical Director Choi Man Hee attended the opening ceremony of the course.
Yu said the Professional Diploma is the continent's highest coaching qualification and he hoped the participants will learn as much as possible from the top instructors provided by the AFC.
The course’s chief instructor is Richard Bate from England while Singapore’s PN Sivaji and Vincent Subramaniam as well as Lim Kim Chon of Malaysia are assistant instructors.
Sivaji thanked the KFA on behalf of AFC for their assistance in organising the course in Korea.
He also thanked UEFA for their support in the appointment of Bate as the chief instructor for the course.
The course programme includes observing FC Seoul in their preparation for the Korea FA Cup final and a session with the club’s head coach Choi Young-soo, who was AFC Coach of the Year in 2013.
The participants then watched the Korea FA Cup final match on November 23 where relegation-threatened Seongnam FC beat favourites FC Seoul in a 4-2 penalty shootout after the game finished goalless in extra-time.
Coach Asia, a new coach development programme, started in April this year with the first module on fitness in the Malaysian capital city of Kuala Lumpur. The second module took place in August in China.
The third module in Paju will conclude on November 28. Two more modules are expected to take place after that to complete the five-module, two-year programme.
