Seoul: Midfielder Jung Woo-young has been released from the Korea Republic squad for the international friendlies against Australia and Uzbekistan after suffering an ankle injury.

The Korea Football Association (KFA) said Asan Mugunghwa midfielder Ju Se-jong will replace Jung for the matches in preparation for the AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019.

Jung, who has two goals in 37 appearances for the Taeguk Warriors, has been one of the core central midfielders for Korea Republic since Paulo Bento took the helm as head coach in August.

The 28-year-old, who is with Qatari side Al Sadd, has featured in the last four friendly matches under Bento.

Ju, 28, was called up by Bento in September but didn't see action. He wasn't selected for Korea Republic's friendly matches against Uruguay and Panama last month.

Ju was a member of the Korea Republic squad at the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia, having scored one goal in 13 international matches.

Bento called up 26 players for this month's friendly matches away from home. The Taeguk Warriors will face Australia on November 17 and Uzbekistan three days later. Both matches will be held in Brisbane, Australia.

Korea Republic will play in Group C at the AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019 with China PR, Philippines and Kyrgyz Republic for company.
