PFC Lokomotiv Tashkent after winning the 2018 Uzbekistan League

Tashkent: PFC Lokomotiv Tashkent secured qualification into the 2019 AFC Champions League group stage after clinching the Uzbekistan Super League on Tuesday.


Andrei Fyodorov’s men, who also won the league in 2016 and 2017, survived a late fightback to defeat FC Pakhtakor Tashkent 3-2 to finish top of the table with 43 points with a game to spare.



Eleven-time winners Pakhtakor claimed second with 34 points, which earned them entry into the 2019 AFC Champions League preliminary Round 2.

Lokomotiv will take their place in Group B alongside Saudi Arabia’s Al Ittihad, Al Wahda FSCC of the UAE and the winners Of Playoff 3 (West).



Lokomotiv went ahead through Igor Jelic in the 19th minute and Marat Bikmajev doubled their advantage in the 38th.

In the second half, Pakhtakor reduced the deficit through Dragan Ceran’s strike in the 51st minute.



Lokomotiv, however, regained their two-goal lead Marat Bikmajev in the 70th minute.



Pakhtakor, however, continued to press Tiago Queiroz Bezerra found the back of the net in the 89th minute but Lokomotiv held on for the win.
