ACL2019 MD2 Toyota Player of the Week: Alaa Abbas (Al Zawraa)

Kuala Lumpur: Al Zawraa's Alaa Abbas has been named the Toyota Player of the Week for Matchday Two of the 2019 AFC Champions League.

Al Zawraa forward Alaa Abbas's two goals in his side's 5-0 win at home to Emirati side Al Wasl in their Group A Matchday Two clash on Monday saw the Iraq international earn this week's accolade.

Abbas' all-action display saw him register the most shots on target in this week's AFC Champions League (5), while only Beijng FC's Cedric Bakambu (13) had more touches in the opposition box than Abbas (12). One of his strikes was also nominated for Goal of the Week.

Analysis: Al Sadd edge Persepolis in game of striking resemblances 

Doha: Al Sadd’s 1-0 victory over Persepolis in Group D of the 2019 AFC Champions League on Tuesday went some way towards avenging the loss by the same scoreline in the first leg of the 2018 semi-final, and subsequent elimination, but the margins were narrow and the game could have gone either way. 

Indeed, the similarities between the two matches at Jassim bin Hamad Stadium were striking, yet perhaps unsurprising given how the Qatari side like to control the play and the Iranian giants defend stoutly and aim to hit opponents on the break.
