Tuesday, January 30, 2018

Suwon: Lim Sang-hyub scored one and made two as Suwon Samsung Bluewings of Korea Republic defeated Vietnam’s FLC Thanh Hoa 5-1 on Tuesday to earn their spot in the group stage of the 2018 AFC Champions League.

Both teams struggled to come to terms with the snowy conditions at Suwon World Cup Stadium, but as the half wore on Suwon adapted best and took control of the play-off match, with new signing Dejan Damjanovic rattling the crossbar.

Waguininho then missed a gilt-edged chance, but the breakthrough finally came as half-time approached when Lim found Waguininho in space in the box, and the Brazilian made no mistake from close range, before Lim doubled Suwon’s lead with the last kick of the first half.

The hosts continued their dominance in the second half and it took just four minutes before they added a third, with Lim again finding Waguininho to score his second of the night.

Defender Lee Ki-je added a fourth just before the hour mark and Damjanovic got a debut goal as full-time approached, before Pape Omar Faye grabbed a consolation for FLC Thanh Hoa in added time.

The win means Suwon will enter Group H alongside Sydney FC of Australia, China's Shanghai Shenhua and Japan's Kashima Antlers, with their first match of the 2018 AFC Champions League away in Sydney on Wednesday, February 14.
