ACL 2019 Round of 16 Second Leg – West: Toyota Player of the Week

Romarinho

Kuala Lumpur: Romarinho has been named as the Toyota Player of the Week after the striker scored twice in Al Ittihad’s 4-3 victory over Zobahan on Monday to help his side advance to their first AFC Champions League quarter-finals since 2014 following a 6-4 aggregate win.

With Al Ittihad already 2-1 up, the Brazilian showed a goalscorer’s instinct to tuck home from close in on 64 minutes to effectively kill the tie off, before he added his brace six minutes later by finishing off a neat team move.

The 28-year-old’s goals came from four shots and three on target, while his passing accuracy was just under 85 percent as he earned a rating of 8.9.

Romarinho, who will return to the quarter-finals for the first time since reaching the last eight with Qatar’s El Jaish in 2016, now has five goals to his name in the 2019 AFC Champions League.

Giuliano

Another Saudi Arabia-based Brazilian, Giuliano, came in second in this week’s rankings after the Al Nassr frontman also scored twice in his team’s 3-2 victory away at Al Wahda.

As half-time approached, the aggregate scoreline was all square at 2-2 when the 29-year-old remained calm under pressure to round off a wonderful flowing move and he netted his double just after the hour as the Riyadh side won 3-2 to progress 4-3 on aggregate.

The forward, who scored an 8.0 rating, had three shots on goal and posted an impressive passing accuracy of just under 90 percent from his 28 passes.

Giuliano's teammate Abderrazak Hamdallah claimed third spot after the Moroccan made it two headed goals in two games against the Emirati side.

With the Riyadh team a goal down, Hamdallah headed in the equaliser in the 41st minute, before his sumptuous layoff for Giuliano paved the way for Al Nassr’s second goal.

Hamdallah

Having only returned to Continental action in the Round of 16 after not playing since Matchday Two, Hamdallah, who was also rated at 8.0, now has three goals to his name and the prolific marksman will be hungry for more int the last eight.

Next in the Toyota Player of the Week rankings comes Al Ahli’s attacking midfielder Abdulfattah Asiri, who scored the only goal in the Jeddah side’s 1-0 win at Al Hilal as they ultimately exited 4-3 on aggregate. With a rating of 7.5, Tuesday’s game saw him add to his two assists in the first leg.

Rounding off this week’s top five is Al Duhail’s Edmilson Junior, who scored in the 3-1 defeat to Al Sadd and earned a 7.4 rating although his side were eliminated from the Continental tournament.

He may not be scoring with the same regularity as last year, but Al Sadd’s Baghdad Bounedjah claimed a key assist and a 7.2 rating to finish sixth in the rankings, while the beneficiary of that assist, Akram Afif (also 7.2), came in at seventh and Al Ittihad’s Emiliano Vecchio (7.1) finished eighth.
