Group C: Qadsia SC 2-0 Al Suwaiq

Tuesday, March 12, 2019

Kuwait City: Qadsia SC scored once in each half to defeat Oman’s Al Suwaiq 2-0 at Jaber Al Ahmed International Stadium in the 2019 AFC Cup Group C on Tuesday.

Both teams opted for a conservative approach, and as a result chances were few and far between in the first half.

Qadsia relied on the physical presence of Yousef Naser up front and repeatedly sent long balls to their frontman.

Ahmad Al Dhefiri came close with a spectacular volleyed effort from long distance after Naser set him up with a cushioned header, but Al Dhefiri’s attempt missed the target.

Naser was impeded as he attempted to move into the final third and Qadsia were awarded a free-kick.

The forward fired a dipping effort from the free-kick leaving goalkeeper Ammar Al Rusheidi helpless as the ball nestled into the net at the half-hour mark to announce the hosts’ first goal of the night.

The visitor’s only real chance of the game came through Yousef Al Ghafri who advanced down the right flank and tried a powerful strike that hit the upright and went behind for a goal-kick.

The Kuwaitis dominance continued in the second half, but they failed to create meaningful chances until late in the game.

As the half wore on, Qadsia finally found a way into their opponents’ box and managed to double their lead just minutes before the final whistle.

Khaled Al Qahtani advanced in space down the left wing and delivered a low cross to Al Dhefiri who was left unmarked at the penalty spot and applied a first-time finish into the bottom corner to seal the victory for the home side who now join Malkiya on four points, while Al Suwaiq are yet to get off the mark this campaign.

Qadsia remain in Kuwait for their Matchday Three fixture against Malkiya on April 1, while Al Suwaiq travel to Lebanon on the same day in pursuit of a first point against Al Ahed.
