Group F: Naga World 2-1 Yangon United FC
Phnom Penh: A first half brace from Atuheire Kipson gave Cambodian champions Naga World a 2-1 win over Yangon United and their first ever win in the AFC Cup on Tuesday.
Looking to bounce back from last week’s 10-0 loss to Hanoi FC in their opening Group F encounter, the Cambodians made the best possible start at the Phnom Penh Olympic Stadium when Sos Souhana’s goal-bound effort was blocked on the goal line by the arm of Pyae Phyo Zaw, with the referee pointing to the penalty spot and showing a red card to the Yangon United defender.

Rwandan striker Kipson stepped up and made no mistake from the spot, but their joy was short lived as the visitors hit back almost straight away, with Sekou Sylla finding Vinicius Miller open in the box before the Brazilian finished coolly to draw his side level.
Lightning was to strike twice midway through the first half as another hand ball, this time from Kosuke Yamazaki saw Meas Channa’s side awarded a second penalty and just like his first attempt, Kipson made no mistake to restore the lead for Naga World and that’s how it stayed heading into the break.
The home side really should’ve extended their lead 12 minutes into the second half when Esoh Omogba burst down the right hand side before cutting the ball back to find Amir Gurbani free in the box. But with the goalkeeper taken out of play, and with the goal at his mercy, the Turkmen midfielder inexplicably skied his shot over the bar.
Just over 15 minutes later and Gurbani again had another glorious chance to extend Naga World’s lead, but once again his finishing let him down as the visitors were let off the hook.
Despite their wasted chances, with Gurbani and Suong Virak also testing Kyaq Zin Htet in the final 15 minutes, the home side held on for a memorable 2-1 victory.
Naga World are at home again on Matchday Three when they take on Singapore’s Tampines Rovers, while Yangon United, still without a win in this campaign, travel to Vietnam to face Hanoi FC.
