Group H: Kaya FC-Iloilo 5-0 Home United FC
Bacolod City: Kaya FC-Iloilo of the Philippines delivered a five-star performance to post a resounding 5-0 victory over Singapore’s Home United in Group H of the 2019 AFC Cup on Wednesday.
After both sides drew their opening games of the campaign, Kaya were in control from the start at Panaad Park and Football Stadium after a Darryl Roberts brace and a goal from Jovin Bedic gave the hosts a 3-0 lead at the interval.
The game was put beyond doubt within 10 minutes of the restart when Alfred Osei netted twice as Kaya went on to register their first victory in the competition since defeating another Singaporean side, Balestier Khalsa, in the 2016 group stage.

The home team got off to a perfect start when former Trinidad and Tobago international Roberts stole in at the back post to head home Marwin Angeles’s corner from the right in the second minute.
Home United almost levelled proceedings soon after but Abdil Qaiyyim was denied by a fine block from defender Masanari Omuna just a few yards from goal after being teed up by Isaka Cernak.
The visitors were controlling the majority of the possession as they pushed for an equaliser but Kaya doubled their advantage in the 33rd minute when Roberts found captain Bedic, who finished past goalkeeper Haikal Hasnol from the left side of the penalty area.
Four minutes later, the hosts gave the Singaporean side a mountain to climb when Connor Tacagni’s cross from the right was missed by Jordan Mintah in the centre but controlled and rifled home from six yards by Roberts.
Kaya made sure of the three points four minutes after the interval when Angeles picked out Roberts with a free-kick over the backline and, after goalkeeper Haikal had denied the forward and Mintah, Osei was on hand to finish at the third attempt.
And Ghanaian Osei made it five six minutes later when Mintah’s cross was only partially cleared by Aqhari Abdullah and the midfielder drilled the ball home from just outside the area.
Roberts should have scored his hat-trick but side-footed wide just before the hour, while Mintah almost grabbed the goal his efforts deserved with 15 minutes to play but was knocked off balance at the vital moment after an excellent jinking run into the box.
Substitute Yannick Tuason could have added a sixth shortly after coming on but saw his effort saved by Haikal before Jalsor Soriano struck the crossbar in the dying moments.
The result moves unbeaten Kaya onto four points from two games in Group H and the Filipino side will next travel to Indonesia to face PSM Makassar in early April, while Home United will take on Laotian side Lao Toyota.
