Mohamad Kalaji - Al Jaish - AFC Cup 2018 MD5

Manama: Mohamad Kalaji's first half goal secured Al Jaish a 1-0 win over Manama Club on Tuesday, giving them their first win in Group B of the 2018 AFC Cup.

The Bahrainis started on the front foot as Mahmood Abdulrahman beat Al Jaish goalkeeper Ahmad Madanieh from outside the box, but saw his attempt cannon off the crossbar in the 25th minute.

Moments before the half-time whistle, Al Jaish managed to break the deadlock as Manama goalkeeper Ashraf Waheed saved Abdulatef Salkeni's shot from inside the box, but the ball fell into the path of Kalaji who applied the finish from a close range.

The Syrian side came close to doubling the lead in the 80th minute, but Salkeni's right-footed shot went just wide. Al Jaish maintained defence and composure until the referee blew the full time whistle to hand them their first win.

A third defeat of the campaign ended Manama's hopes of progressing to the next round as they occupy the group's last spot with one point. Al Jaish, meanwhile, are level with Al Zawraa on six points, but having played one game more than their Matchday Six opponents.
