Matchday Five - Group G: Yangon United FC 3-2 Bali United FC
Yangon: Myanmar’s Yangon United secured a spot in the 2018 AFC Cup ASEAN Zonal Semi-finals with a come-from-behind 3-2 win over Bali United from Indonesia on Wednesday.
The Indonesian side came into the match at the Thuwunna Stadium knowing they needed a win to keep their hopes of progression alive, and they made the best possible start when Ricky Fajrin’s cross was headed home by Ilija Spasojevic in the 11th minute.
Spasojevic then turned provider ten minutes before half-time, flicking on a long goal kick into the path of Nyoman Sukarja, who strode into the box and finished calmly past Sann Satt Naing to give Bali United a two goal lead.
Widodo Putro’s men couldn’t hang on to that advantage until half-time, however, with exciting winger Maung Maung Lwin pulling one back for the home side just before the break.
That goal changed the momentum of the game and in the second half Myo Min Tun’s men looked more confident and before long, they were back level when Uzochukwu Emmanuel danced his way past the Bali United defence to draw his side level two minutes from the hour mark.
The comeback was complete on 74 minutes when Maung Maung Lwin added an assist to his earlier goal, sliding the ball across the box for a simple tap in for Sekou Sylla.
The win is the fourth in five matches for Yangon United and guarantees their spot in the knockout rounds ahead of their final group match in two weeks against Thanh Hoa.
