FC Istiklol rejoice - AFC Cup 2018 MD4

Osh: An added time headed goal from Dilshod Vasiev helped last year’s AFC Cup runners-up FC Istiklol claim a dramatic 3-2 away win over FC Alay of Kyrgyz Republic in Group D on Wednesday.

The crowd at the Suyinbaev Stadium were treated to a five-goal thriller with the action heating up after seven minutes when Istiklol midfielder Fatkhullo Fatkhulloev opened the scoring from the penalty spot.

Shortly before half-time, a Ulugbek Riskulov free-kick levelled proceedings for Alay but the hosts were unable to maintain their lead heading into the break as Romish Dzalilov restored Istiklol’s advantage moments later.

Alay pulled level against the run of play with 15 minutes remaining when Alia Sylla converted the second penalty of the evening, but Vasiev’s late headed intervention ensured the Tajikistan club took another step towards progression to the knockout rounds.

The result eliminates Alay from this year’s competition with two rounds of the Group Stage remaining, while Istiklol maintain their unbeaten record at the top of Group D.

Next up, Istiklol travel to Turkmenistan to face FC Ahal on May 1, while Alay will visit Altyn Asyr in Balkanabat a day later.
