Matchday Four - Group I: Benfica Macau 0-2 4.25 SC
Macau: A dominant display from 4.25 SC saw them move within a point of the 2018 AFC Cup Inter-zone semi-finals as An Il-born's double gave them a 2-0 victory over Group I rivals Benfica Macau on Wednesday.
The side from DPR Korea, who top the group on 12 points, ended the hopes of Benfica Macau, having twice defeated the side who sit six points behind them.
Niki Torrao threatened for the hosts early on when he drove through several challenges and shot into the side netting.
But the visitors soon asserted themselves and Gilchrist Nguema received a yellow card for a tug on An Il-born. Il-born took the resulting free kick and his dipping effort forced Batista to beat it out.
Il-born, however, would not be denied as the away side took the lead in the 24th minute, when a deep cross from An Song-il broke to him at the far post and he drilled into the corner from 12 yards.
4.25 SC made it 2-0 in the 31st minute as Il-born slotted home a penalty after Kim Yu-song was fouled.
Yun Sun-o's charges continued to dominate after the break and Ri Hyong-jin headed over the bar from Kim Jong-chol’s cross in the 57th minute.
Another excellent move saw Kwon Chung-hyok’s cross from the right flicked into the path of Yu-song, but the striker blazed over from close range.
Batista then clawed out Rim Chol-min’s header before Won Song’s dipping long-range volley struck the woodwork.
Next week, Benfica Macau travel to Chinese Taipei to take on Hang Yuen, while 4.25 SC play fellow DPR Korea side Hwaepul SC, where a draw will seal qualification for the Inter-zone semi-finals.
