Hang Yuen FC v Hwaepul SC

New Taipei City: A late strike from Jon Chung-il gave Hwaepul SC a deserved 1-0 victory over Group I rivals Hang Yuen FC on AFC Cup Matchday Four.

Jean-Marc Alexandre gave the visitors an early scare when he flashed a header wide from Tsou Yu-chieh’s corner in the seventh minute.

Hwaepul responded as Jon-chung Il fired a low shot just wide from 20 yards.

Hang Yuen’s Tsou Yu-chieh then brought a great save out of Song Thae with a left-footed strike from just inside the box

But the away side began to take control and Hang Yuen keeper Huang Chiu-lin saved well at the feet of Choe-kwang Jin as he burst through on goal.

The Hwaepul striker then tested Huang Chiu-lin with a 20-yard shot.

Pressure from the away side continued after the break and it was one-way traffic at the start of the second half.

Ri Jong-min had a long-range effort saved before Choe Kwan-jin shot over. Jang Kuk-chol had a powerful cross-shot from a narrow angle saved as the visitors turned the screw.

Pak-chol Song then missed a great chance when he headed wide from close range as Hwaepul’s frustration continued.

But they finally made the breakthrough in the 79th minute when Jon Chung-il slotted home from the rebound after Song-jong Hook’s header had hit the bar.

Hwaepul remained in control for the final 10 minutes without adding to their tally in what should have been a more convincing victory on the balance of play.

Next week’s Matchday Five sees Hang Yuen host Benfica Macau, while Hwaepul are at home to fellow DPR Korean club 4.25 SC.
