Matchday Six - Group D: FC Alay 2-3 FC Ahal
Osh: FC Ahal came from two goals down to earn a hard-fought 3-2 win on the road against FC Alay in their Group D 2018 AFC Cup clash on Wednesday.
With the two teams already eliminated heading into the game, both were desperate to end their campaign on a high note, with the home side still looking for their first win of the campaign.
Nemat Koshokov’s side made the perfect start when Alia Sylla opened the scoring from the penalty spot after Amredin Sharifi was fouled by Annaguliyev Guychmyrat after 16 minutes.
FC Alay doubled their lead just over five minutes later after some lovely build up play from Sylla and Aldiyar Kabylbekov down the right, with Kozho Joel turning in Kabylbekov’s deflected cross.
But just minutes before the half time break FC Ahal were awarded a penalty of their own and Myrat Annayev converted from the spot to pull a goal back for the visitors.
Rovshen Meredov’s side then drew level after 66 minutes when Guychmyrat, who conceded the penalty in the first half, side footed home from a corner to make it 2-2.
Sharifi had a chance to restore the lead for the home side with 10 minutes remaining, but after a perfect cross from Kozho Joel and with the goal at his mercy he inexplicably put his shot over the crossbar.
It proved to be a costly miss after the referee awarded a 91st minute penalty to the visitors when Maksadbek Alimov handled the ball in the area. Substitute Akmamedov Begench was tasked with the responsibility to take the resulting spot-kick and he made no mistake to secure the win and all three points for FC Ahal.
