Matchday Three - Group C: Al Wahda 2-1 Al Ansar
Sidon: Mohamad Al Hasan’s second-half goal saw Al Wahda come from behind to claim a 2-1 victory over Lebanon’s Al Ansar as the Syrian side recorded their first win in Group C of the AFC Cup at Saida Municipal Stadium on Monday.
Al Ansar got off to the perfect start as El Hadji Malick Tall volleyed home from Abbas Atwi's corner to put his side in front inside 12 minutes.
The Syrian side then levelled the score in the 37th minute when striker Bassel Moustafa cut in from the left flank and dribbled past two players before firing a low shot into the bottom right corner for his third goal of the campaign.
The Lebanese team thought they had taken the lead again when Tall moved through on goal and applied a right-footed finish that beat goalkeeper Rabea El Kakhi in the 56th minute, only for the Senegalese striker to see his attempt bounce off the post and behind for a goal kick.
Al Wahda finally got their winner on the hour mark when Al Hasan’s placed shot left El Kakhi helpless, and the Syrian side held on to secure their first win of the campaign and move two points clear of Al Ansar.
Al Ansar will have a chance to avenge the defeat when the two teams face off on Matchday Four in Beirut next Tuesday.
