Inexperience reason for Vietnam's last gasp defeat
Taipei: Vietnam suffered heartbreak at the very end in their Group A opening match against Malaysia in the AFC Futsal Championship 2018 on Thursday, which midfielder Pham Duc Hoa attributed on inexperience.
Vu Duc Tung’s twist and turn strike a minute before the break gave Vietnam the lead but Mohamad Awalluddin Nawi’s brace in the 36th and 40th minutes gave Malaysia a 2-1 win.
Duc Hoa, 26, blamed the defeat to inexperience as several in the Vietnam squad are new to the international scene.
“We played really well but coming into this tournament, we have some new and young players who haven’t had much international exposure.
“So I think part of the loss was because we lack that experience, ” said Duc Hoa

Duc Hoa, however, was also quick to praise their Southeast Asian rivals.
“Malaysia played well too. They have a few players who are very skilful and experienced, such as Awalluddin Nawi, Khairul Effendy and Mohd Azwann Ismail, which is why I think they won.”
Miguel Rodrigo’s side now sit bottom of Group A, after Chinese Taipei and Bahrain played to a 2-2 draw, which means a crucial Matchday Two for Vietnam as they take on the West Asians next on Saturday.
“We will have to play better in our next match, because of this first loss. So the next two games will be decisive, and it will be like a ‘final’ against Bahrain for us.”
