Grenoble: Korea Republic head coach Yoon Duk-yeo has backed his players to recover from their opening match loss to France and get their FIFA Women’s World Cup campaign back on track by beating Nigeria on Wednesday.
The Koreans were blown away by a rampant host nation in Paris last Friday, conceding three first-half goals on the way to a comprehensive 4-0 defeat.
Nigeria suffered a loss of their own, to Norway, in their opening fixture, turning Wednesday’s match at Grenoble’s Stade des Alpes into one where a loss for either side could inflict irreparable damage to their hopes of knockout stage football.

Paris: Head coach Yoon Duk-yeo has declared that he is looking for Korea Republic to move on as quickly as possible from Friday’s 4-0 defeat to France in the opening match of the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Wendie Renard’s brace as well as goals from Amandine Henry and Eugenie Le Sommer helped France to a comprehensive Group A victory as Korea Republic regularly struggled to contain the rampaging host nation at an atmospheric Parc des Princes in Paris.
The defeat, whilst far from extinguishing Korean hopes, has left Yoon’s charges with plenty of work still to do if they are to reach the competition’s knockout phase, a point not lost on the 58-year-old tactician.

Paris: A commanding performance from host nation France proved Korea Republic’s undoing on Friday as they were beaten 4-0 in the opening match of the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Wendie Renard’s brace and the inspirational form of Amandine Henry and Eugenie Le Sommer were the undoubted highlights of the morale boosting win for France, one which sends them to the top of the Group A table ahead of Saturday’s match between fellow group hopefuls Norway and Nigeria.

Reims: Nuengrutai Srathongvian is fully aware of the challenge presented by FIFA Women’s World Cup holders the United States, but the Thailand head coach has given her players permission to dream big ahead of Tuesday’s opening Group E match.
The three-time champion Americans have never lost a World Cup opener, and few expect to see that streak come to an end against a Thailand side 33 places below them in the world rankings at Stade Auguste-Delaune.
Jill Ellis’ star-studded outfit comes into the match with a six-game winning streak, while the Chaba Kaew have lost their previous five, but Nuengrutai insists no one in her camp has given up hope of a historic upset.

Paris: Japan were denied a first-up win by Argentina, who earned a goalless draw in their opening FIFA Women’s World Cup France 2019 fixture at Parc des Princes on Monday.
Despite fielding eight players making their tournament debut, Japan were considered strong favourites to win the tie, but a resolute Argentinian defence helped Carlos Borrello’s side to their first ever World Cup point.

Valenciennes: A 95th minute winner from two-goal hero Barbara Bonansea gave Italy their first FIFA Women’s World Cup win in two decades and dealt a blow to Australia’s hopes in the opening Group C match on Sunday.
Sam Kerr opened the scoring with her first career World Cup goal, but Juventus ace Bonansea scored twice in the second half to punish a listless Australia, who now have a significant challenge ahead if they are to salvage their France 2019 campaign.
The Matildas will look to bounce back against Brazil on Thursday, knowing defeat in that match could deliver a fatal blow to their knockout stage hopes.

Rennes: A second-half strike from Giulia Gwinn proved decisive as Germany claimed all three points in their opening FIFA Women’s World Cup France 2019 clash against China PR on Saturday.
Jia Xiuquan’s side made life more difficult than many observers had anticipated for the two-time winners, but were left to rue a series of missed first-half opportunities as teenage star Gwinn sealed the win in the 66th minute.
Despite their defeat, China PR’s campaign is far from over, with forthcoming matches against South Africa and Spain to decide their knockout stage fate.
