Al Wakrah: Qatar's Amir Cup final will be held at the Al Wakrah Stadium on May 16, the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy announced on Thursday.

The futuristic 40,000 capacity arena, which is inspired by dhow boats, is nearing completion. It was also reported that the pitch was laid in record time - nine hours and 15 minutes.

The elegant stadium will also host 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar matches through to the quarter-finals.

The top four finishers in the 2018-19 Qatar Stars League - Al Duhail, Al Sadd, Al Sailiya and Al Rayyan - received direct qualification to the 47th Emir of Qatar Cup quarter-finals, as eight more teams will battle it out in the third round for the remaining four spots over this weekend.

Al Duhail are the current title holders of the Emir of Qatar Cup, but 16-time champions Al Sadd, who are chasing a league and cup double, will fancy their chances.
