Jeonju: Suwon Bluewings moved into second place in the K League Classic standings on Saturday with a 2-1 win over fellow AFC Champions League participants Jeonbuk Motors on Saturday.
A penalty from Lee Dong-gook in the 84thminute was not enough to salvage anything from the tie for Jeonbuk as goals from Kwak Hee-ju in the 31stminute and Seo Jung-jin in the 57thminute secured all three points for Suwon.
Seo Jung-won’s team will travel to Japan to take on Kashiwa Reysol on Wednesday while Jeonbuk meet Urawa Reds at Saitama Stadium the same day.
Pohang Steelers maintained their position at the top of the standings – one points ahead of Suwon – with a 2-1 win over Chunnam Dragons secured thanks to goals from Hwang Jin-sung and Lee Myeong-ju.
FC Seoul, meanwhile, were held to a 2-2 draw by Gyeongnam as the defending champions’ early season struggles continue with Choi Yong-soo’s team languishing in 11thplace with just two points.
Pohang will travel to Japan to meet Sanfrecce Hiroshima on Tuesday in Group G while FC Seoul host J.League side Vegalta Sendai on the same day in Group E.
