J.League champions Sanfrecce Hiroshima found their form ahead of their AFC Champions League clash with Pohang Steelers on Tuesday with a resounding 4-0 win over Shimizu S-Pulse on Saturday.

Hisato Sato, the J.League’s Most Valuable Player and leading scorer in 2012, scored twice in the second half – including from the penalty spot – to secure the three points for Hajime Moriyasu’s side.

The win moves S-Pulse up to fifth in the standings, five points adrift of league leaders Yokohama F Marinos, who earned their fourthstraight win of the season with victory over FC Tokyo.

Vegalta Sendai, meanwhile, drew 1-1 with Cerezo Osaka ahead of their meeting with FC Seoul on Tuesday in Group E as a brace from MasatoKudo helped Kashiwa Reysol secure a 3-1 win over Oita Trinita as the Emperor’s Cup winners prepared for their clash with Suwon Bluewings on Wednesday.

Tomoaki Makino and Marcio Richardes were on the scoresheet as Urawa Reds maintained their unbeaten start to the season, which leaves them in second spot in the standings, with a 2-0 win over Albirex Niigata. Urawahost Jeonbuk Motors on Wednesday.
