oman qatar 3x2Manama: El Jaish striker Mohamed Al Sayed scored the winner with two minutes remaining as Qatar bounced back in the Gulf Cup 2013 with a 2-1 victory over Oman on Tuesday.

After losing their first match in Group A against UAE 3-1, Qatar needed to win the match to stay alive in the competition and Al Sayed, who had scored against Kuwait in their 3-0 win in the 2011 AFC Asian Cup, rescued the Qataris by finding the net with just two minute left in the regulation time.

Earlier, Khalfan Ibrahim coolly converted a penalty in the 56th minute to put Qatar 1-0 up but Oman hit back in the same fashion after Hussein Al Hadhri also converted a penalty to bring the score at level in the 71st minute.

With their first win in the tournament, Qatar moved into the second place of Group A where the UAE has already confirmed its place in the semi-final. The Paulo Autuori side need a win or at least a draw against hosts Bahrain provided the UAE beat Oman in other match to qualify for the semi-final.

Qatar are in Group D of the AFC Asian Cup 2015 qualifiers where they will face neighbours Bahrain, Yemen and Malaysia with the Malaysian visiting them on 6 February 2013. Oman, who have an uphill task of remaining in the competition beyond the group stages, have West Asian neighbours Jordan and Syria alongside with Singapore in Group A.
