Nanjing: Asian football powerhouse DPR Korea stormed into the semi-finals of the AFC U-16 Women’s Championship 2013 after thrashing Chinese Taipei 10-0 in the Group B match played at the Jiangsu Football Training Base Stadium on Monday.
DPR Korea won their both matches having beaten Jordan 6-0 earlier in the competition while Chinese Taipei, who also defeated Jordan, finished second in the group.
DPR Korea will face hosts China in the semi-final on Thursday.
Striker Sung Hyang-sim scored a hattrick for the Koreans while fellow striker Wi Jong-sim grabbed a brace. Also to register their names in the scoresheet were Ri Pom-hyang, An Song-ok, Kim Pom-ui, Ri Hae-yon and Ri Un-jong.
The Korean had started their preparations for the semi-final before their match against Chinese Taipei as some of their coaching staff studied the match between China and Australia which kicked off simultaneously elsewhere.
“We are really happy that we qualify for the next stages of the tournament,” DPR Korea’s assistant coach said.
“It was a good learning opportunity for my players to prepare themselves for the semi-final. We came here to win the championship,” she declared.
“We tried our best against one of the tournament’s title contenders so I am satisfied,” Chinese Taipei coach Chen Ya Ling said.
“We could see that the top teams in Asia are much better than us but we have the ability to improve as we are aiming to develop our team,” she added.
