mascotDOHA: The AFC Asian Cup 2011 Local Organising Committee launched the official Mascot Contest last Friday as part of the build-up towards the continental football extravaganza.

The contest bids to discover and provide an identity to Asia’s showcase national team event that will be held in the Qatari capital of Doha from January 7-29, 2011.

The official mascot will be recognised throughout the world as the principle identity of the most prestigious football tournament in Asia where 16 national teams will battle it out to become the champions of Asia.

The LOC has also launched a contest to name the mascot, which would reflect both the culture of the host country and the personality of the mascot.

Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three entries in the mascot contest while the winner of mascot name contest will also be rewarded in cash.
