Melaka: Balkan boss Rahim Kurbanmemedov believed fixing the many mistakes in the first half helped them perform better and scored all their four goals after the break in their game against Erchim of Mongolia on Friday.
The Turkmenistan league champions took quite a number of corner and free kicks including a long-range one on 38 minutes that arched wide away from the goal post.
Despite scoring two goals in the first half of their 6-0 thumping of Nepal’s Three Star Club in their campaign opener on Monday, Balkan took until the 59th minute to open the scoring against Erchim.
“As you know, all our four goals in this match were scored in the second half. It is clear that we didn’t play very well and wasted a lot of chances in the first half," said Kurbanmemedov (pictured) during a press conference after the tie.
“So we tried to fix our mistakes to play better after the break. We were more confident with the second half.
“The main team was playing okay but maybe our substitute Rahmet Shermetov who was brought on in the second half refreshed the game.”
Erchim head coach Batnasan Dovdon lamented on their poor results in the match.
“Our performance in this match was really bad and I am very unhappy with our results. Our show in our first match against Three Star Club of Nepal whom we drew 1-1 was a better result.
“Yes, some players were under pressure because we had to win this game to reach the final while Balkan could’ve just drawn us and still progressed.
“However, we have finished champions in the Mongolian league this year and we look forward to appearing in the AFC President’s Cup again next year.”
