Shah Alam: Chonburi Bluewave finished atop the AFC Futsal Championship 2013 Zone 2 Qualifiers after convincingly defeating Chinese outfit Shenzhen Nanling 7-1 on Tuesday at the Panasonic Sports Complex.
With both the sides qualified for the tournament proper to be held in Nagoya in August, Chonburi rested their star player Kirtsada Wongkaeo but his absence did not deter the Thais as they were in total control throughout the game.
The Thai champions took the lead in the second minute with a neat finishing from Lertchai Issarasuwipakorn after he received an accurate pass from Rudimar Venancio who had three assists in the match.
Chonburi scored one more goal in the 14th and this time it was tournament’s joint top scorer and Thai international Suphawut Thueanklang who headed home his sixth goal of the tournament.
Shenzhen conceded one more goal with seconds remaining in the first half through Thueanklang’s seventh of the tournament. Later, he joined his teammate Wongkaeo by completing a hat-trick and taking his own tally to eight goals.
Shenzhen pulled a consolation goal through their leading goalscorer Danilo Moura in the second half.
“They are very tough and strong opponents and it was not easy to find spaces in their area,” Shenzhen coach Wu Zhuoxi told www.the-afc.com.
“Now we are in the finals and we are determined to work harder in the next four months so that we can give a serious challenge.
We need to improve on our passing, defence and more importantly freekicks. At the moment we are behind from Thai teams but we have a potential to grow.
His counterpart Pazos Mendez was happy with his side’s clinical finish by winning all their matches.
“It was a great competition and we were dominant over all the opponents throughout but the finals are a different ball game.
“We were superior than the Australian side Dural Warriors in the semi-final and we also had two great matches against Shenzhen Nanling so overall I am very happy with our efforts.
“But there are rooms to improve. We need to be more clinical. This team has the potential to win the finals but they have to keep working hard,” he quipped.
