Mongolia 0-1 Afghanistan

Vientiane: Afghanistan striker Babal Arezou scored the winning goal for the second successive AFC Challenge Cup 2014 qualifier as the South Asian side edged Mongolia 1-0 to go top of Group C.

Arezou, who scored the decisive goal against Sri Lanka on Saturday, once again proved the match winner, with his solitary strike in the 59th minute sealing all three points for the Afghans.

Afghanistan currently lead the table with six points  while Mongolia, who held hosts Laos to a 1-1 draw in their opening fixture, have just one point from two matches rendering Wednesday’s tie against Sri Lanka academic.

The top teams from each of the five qualifying groups gain entry to the finals while the two best second-placed sides will also join the top five and hosts Maldives in next year's tournament proper.

The winner of the 2014 AFC Challenge Cup will also receive a place in the AFC Asian Cup 2015 in Australia.
