Yangon: India captain Sunil Chettri scored a brace as the 2008 AFC Challenge Cup winners made it two wins out of two in the qualifiers for the 2014 finals by beating Guam 4-0 at the Yangon Youth Training Centre on Monday.
After a solid defensive display by Guam in the first half, India finally broke the deadlock in the 49th minute through Chettri’s first goal of the tournament before India doubled their lead in the 68th courtesy of Clifford Miranda's first of the campaign.
Midfielder Jewel Raja Shaikh made it two in two games with India's third in the 79th minute having scored in Saturday's 2-1 win over Chinese Taipei. Chettri then completed his brace in stoppage time to send India into Wednesday’s showdown against group hosts Myanmar. Guam will wrap up their qualification campaign against Chinese Taipei on the same day.
The top teams from each of the five qualifying groups gain entry to the finals while the two best second-placed sides will also join the top five and hosts Maldives in next year's tournament proper.
The winner of the 2014 AFC Challenge Cup will also receive a place in the AFC Asian Cup 2015 in Australia.
