AFC Challenge Cup

Yangon: Chinese Taipei captain Meng Chian Lee scored a penalty 10 minutes from time to spoil the party for hosts Myanmar as both sides played an entertaining 1-1 draw in Group A of the AFC Challenge Cup 2014 qualifiers on Monday.

With group favourites India making it two wins out of two with a 4-0 win over Guam in the earlier match, the pressure was on Myanmar and they looked to be heading for the victory they needed when forward Soe Kyaw Kyaw found the back of the net in the 18th minute.

Myanmar held their slender lead until the 80th minute whenKorea Republic referee Ko Hyung-jin awarded Chinese Taipei a penalty, which was successfully converted by Lee to earn the East Asians a share of the spoils at the Yangon Youth Training Centre.

Myanmar face table-topping India on Wednesday knowing that victory will see them secure a place in the 2014 AFC Challenge Cup while failure to pick up all three points will leave them waiting to the climax of the qualifying competition to see if they emerge as one of the two best second-place finishers that will join the five group winners and hosts Maldives in the tournament proper next year.
