Kuala Lumpur: Nguyen Cong Phuong scored a triple as he helped Vietnam clinch a 6-1 win over Chinese Taipei in their AFC U-19 Championship 2014 Group F qualifying match at Kuala Lumpur Stadium, Malaysia, on Thursday.
The Vietnamese scored a double before the game went into the break and scored another four in the second half as Chinese Taipei found their consolation goal in the dying minutes of the match.
Nguyen Van Toan got on the score sheet for Vietnam with his contributions on 21 and 60 minutes while substitute Lam Ti Phong, who came off the bench on 63 minutes, scored his single on 87 minutes.
Nguyen Cong Phuong, who went on to grab the match’s MVP accolade, recorded his second and third goals on 55 and 57 minutes respectively.
Chinese Taipei scored their lone goal through Lai Chih-Hsuan a minute before full time.
Nguyen Quoc Tuan’s Vietnamese side will continue their campaign against Hong Kong while Kuroda Kazuo-led Chinese Taipei take on Australia on Saturday.
