KUALA LUMPUR: An Oman Football Association (OFA) delegation, led by its newly-elected president Sayyid Khalid Al Busaidi, visited AFC House on Tuesday to discuss ways to implement the Vision Oman project.
Al Busaidi, during his presentation to the Vision Asia team, laid down his objectives and an ambitious vision to raise the level of Omani football.
“We would like to transform Omani football into an industry. We have some hurdles but I am confident we can bring Omani football to the international level, with professionalised strategies and their effective implementation,” he said.
“Oman’s hosting of Gulf Cup in January 2009 will give the association a chance to bring back the confidence of fans and sponsors alike. We are doing aggressive campaigns to increase attendances.”
AFC President Mohamed bin Hammam was impressed with the Omani vision saying, “If OFA manage to establish the foundation for these objectives, success can be achieved in due course.”
“The Confederation plays a great role in developing football in its member associations and I assure OFA of the full support of AFC in order to achieve the goals.”
The Vision Asia team presented its assessment report and proposed goals for various aspects like administration, competitions, grassroots and youth, coach education and referees development.
A strategic development plan and its implementation schedule will be decided during the course of a future workshop to be held in Oman in the final quarter of this year.
