FREIBURG – AFC Women’s Asian Cup holders China conceded twice in the last ten minutes to lose 2-0 to World champions Germany in a friendly in Freiburg on Thursday.
China went into the match looking to put the disappointment of finishing third in the four-team East Asian Championship behind them but just as it was looking like they would emerge creditable goalless draw Brigit Prinz and Petra Wimbersky struck late for the Germans.
The Steel Roses went a goal down with ten minutes left to play when Prinz, who opened the scoring as Germany beat Brazil 2-0 in the final of the 2007 FIFA Women’s World Cup in China, broke the deadlock before her FFC Frankfurt team-mate Wimbersky added the second nine minutes later.
