| Sorry start for Steel Roses |

| China player Xu Yuan in action against the USA |
ALBUFEIRA – Reigning AFC Women’s Asian Cup champions China made a disappointing start to their 2008 Algarve Cup campaign on Wednesday as the Steel Roses were blunted 4-0 by the USA.
The Algarve Cup holders opened the scoring in the fifth minute through Lindsay Tarpley before second-half goals from Tobin Heath (47), Abby Wambach (65) and Carli Lloyd (71) completed the rout.
“My players made many mistakes and they should all share responsibility for the loss,” said China’s French coach Elisabeth Loisel, who also conceded that the USA side was fitter and faster than the 2002 and 1999 Algarve Cup champions.
